What is close up magic?

Think of a magician and you will probably imagine a cloaked illusionist on a stage vanishing an elephant, or a masked performer producing doves in spits of fire. This fantastic picture is only one aspect of magic. Close up magic brings the amazement of stage magic right into the spectators' hands; the astonishment is enhanced by this direct involvement. As the magic happens right in front of you, there is nowhere for the magician to hide, and the 'trick' takes on the aura of the impossible.

Imagine objects appearing and disappearing in your own hands, cards changing places in the blink of an eye, your fondest memories being read from your mind, newspaper cuttings turning into £10 notes or your thoughts being predicted by someone you've never met before. Why hire a magician?

Magic can provide fantastic entertainment for almost any event - the versatility of close up magic means that it easily fits into your schedule. Whether it be table hopping during a meal, mingling with guests during a drinks reception, acting as wandering entertainment during a ball or breaking the ice at corporate events, magic is an ideal source of fun and amazement which will be remembered for a long time. I don't require any special equipment or preparation in order to work - everything that I need will be in my pockets (not in my sleeves!), and I have always found that my clients are happy that they can book me confident in the knowledge that they will have an entertainment act that fits seamlessly and independently into their event.

What experience do you have?

I have been performing in the Durham area for the past 5 years at a wide variety of events, and am willing to travel to Newcastle, surrounding areas of County Durham or further afield. Some of my work comes via the university where I am a PhD student. I have provided magic to numerous balls and formal dinners as well as private parties and weddings. Many of my engagements are repeat bookings or requests thanks to word of mouth recommendations. Some of the feedback I have received from clients is shown below, or here.
